Independent Praise for NxOpinion
"I think NxOpinion is the best idea to come along in a long time," says Dr. Paul Groen, founder of Doctors On Call for Service (DOCS), a nonprofit foundation that sends volunteer U.S. doctors worldwide to help promote global medical care. "I have worked many years in Africa in places where there are no resources—books or journals—and no means of communication. This project is a godsend."
DOCS has been providing continuing medical education for rural doctors in eastern Africa for the past eight years. One of the biggest healthcare problems facing that region, according to Dr. Groen, is the inability to get up-to-date medical information into the hands of these doctors in a form that they can readily use. Medical textbooks—printed or in CD-ROM format—are too expensive, while CDs, in particular, also are impractical given the lack of PCs, dependable power sources, and technical support resources.
"NxOpinion combines the information that these rural African doctors need with a device—the Pocket PC or Tablet PC—that they can easily take advantage of,” says Dr. Groen. "The potential of this solution to improve African health care is so dramatic that it just boggles the mind."
